Making good food easier to find — and easier to share.
Food access isn’t only about emergency hunger. It’s about proximity, affordability, dignity, and choice. Green Bean Collective works to expand food access in ways that are practical, neighbour-led, and deeply local.
Community Fridge & Pantry Network

We host a community fridge and pantry where neighbours can:
- take food when they need it
- leave food when they can
- participate without questions, paperwork, or judgement
Community fridges work because they’re simple, visible, and rooted in trust. Our long-term vision is to help grow a network of fridges and pantries across the community — including supporting others who want to host one on their own property.
We share what we learn so others don’t have to reinvent the wheel.
Gardens Everywhere
The Gardens Everywhere project is about increasing access to food by increasing access to growing. This includes:
- backyard and front-yard food gardens
- shared and informal community growing spaces
- seed, seedling, and knowledge sharing
Not everyone has land, time, or experience — so we focus on collaboration, encouragement, and making gardening feel doable rather than intimidating.
Growing food changes how people relate to it — and to each other.
Bulk Purchasing & Cooperative Buying
We are building toward a bulk wholesale purchasing / grocery co-op-style model that allows neighbours to:
- buy staple foods at lower cost
- access higher-quality, local, and ethically sourced products
- pool purchasing power without corporate overhead
This work is still evolving, starting with small group buys and learning as we go. The goal is not convenience at all costs — it’s resilience, fairness, and transparency.
Food access improves when communities work together instead of shopping alone.
